Happy 2019!
After an exciting and interesting 2018, we’re back, ready to tackle a new and wonderful New Year. We welcomed our 7th grand-child into the world this past December and have been busy traveling back and forth functioning in our roles as Grandma and Grandpa!
Now is a great time to plan your seasonal home maintenance chores. Whether you’re planning to sell your home or not, maintaining your homes ‘systems’ is certainly in order. Let’s look at what should be on your ‘to-do’ list:
Winter -To prevent pipes from bursting, drain and insulate exposed outdoor pipes. Also check your boiler’s water level every now and again to make sure it doesn’t get too low. Many of us here in Idaho have fireplaces which require constant and specific maintenance to function safely. Be sure you tend to your fireplace throughout the winter.
Spring – Winter can (will?) leave a layer of dirt and grit on your home’s exterior. Get it ready for Spring by cleaning windows, doors and siding with a garden hose or power washer. And while the weather is still mild, have your HVAC systems serviced by a professional to keep them running at optimal efficiency…worth the expense!
Summer – Inspect your sprinkler system for clogs or malfunctioning heads. Keep an eye out for damaged pipes or pooling water to avoid a larger issue. Review or establish your family emergency plan and restock your disaster supply kit if necessary.
Fall – Get ahead of winter by having your chimney professionally inspected and cleaned. Make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are functioning properly and have fresh batteries. Keep you gutters clear of leaves and debris to protect your roof and foundation.
This is only a short list of maintenance items to keep in mind. Keep up with ALL your annual, monthly and yearly to-dos to preserve the value of your home and avoid potential headaches down the road. You’ll thank yourself later!
We want to help you create spaces that bring you joy and comfort. Spaces that you can relax in, gather with friends and family and be the wonderful place you can’t wait to get back to after a long day at work, a trip or a night out. We want you to love coming home!
Happy 2019 to everyone!
