Why do we need art in our homes?
A simple question, right? But with a far more complex answer. Art is more than ‘filling up spaces’ or adding color to a wall. It involves your spirit and your inner emotions.
Here's why we all need a few personal pieces of artwork in our living areas:
Art personalizes a home.
Something crafted by an individual, separates a room from its ‘factory manufactured’ components.
With a work of art, one can feel the time, dedication and expertise that went into its development. Sometimes one is lucky enough to meet the creator of the artwork and learn a bit about its development. Even without having met the artist every color and brushstroke is a trademark of the individual composer of each piece.
Art is a great conversation starter.
The mere glance at a work of art speaks volumes as to who and what you are.
Whether it’s your personality or what your values in life might be, art can be the perfect decoder. You’d be surprised at conversations that begin around your choice of art.
Art can bring out emotions that live deep inside oneself.
Art can evoke powerful emotions when we look at it. Art can surface a smile after a disappointing day, make us recall or drive us to accomplish more in life. It can provide comfort and remind us that we are not alone in our feelings.
Art allows us to reflect on our emotions. Whatever that emotion - positive or negative - it lets us know that we are not alone in our thoughts.
Art encourages emotional growth.
When art is more than decoration it challenges you intellectually, addresses ideas you may hold, and might even make you ill-at-ease.
By confronting these feelings, we force ourselves to think more diversely, to challenge ourselves and to see the world from a different vantagepoint. Having a work of art that has remolded our worldview in our own home is a daily reminder to always question our habits and thoughts.
Art reminds us of what can be achieved.
Seeing other people do what they love is uplifting. That’s why we follow the biographies of artists. Their passion is contagious, and we feel the need to learn more about them.
It is invigorating to see someone both creating and dedicating their time to what gives them the most joy in life. By pursuing these passions, they inspire us to do the same.
